Jay-Z was having a hard knock life, The Offspring were pretty fly for white guys, Beastie Boys were intergalactics and Reel Big Fish were all over the radio with Take On Me.
For us, 1998 is a landmark year.
Without a record deal, we’ve decided to go on our own term
and record a couple of songs, that would become a short record the way we’ve always wanted it to be. 100% self-produced.
More ska punk than punk ska (or maybe it’s the other way around) the reggae breakdowns were slowly making a way in our writing
process. Also, we wanted the punk parts to be hard, the ska parts to be energetic and the reggae parts to be mellow. We were kids! We wanted to make the best music we could and we were really looking forward to playing the songs live. It was always about playing the songs live.
The shows we did to support Like Kids in a Field caught the attention of Matt and Mike at Stomp Records and the rest is history. Or not.
On this 20th anniversary edition, we’ve included a version of Grey that was recorded for Fat Wreck Chords. In fact, Fat Mike asked us to record something for a new Fat comp
(that would later be known as Short Music For Short People) but we’ve ended up sending the song to the wrong address.
I told you that we were kids, right?
Thanks to Anthony and People Of Punk Rock Records for the reissue and thanks to all you who are still supporting the band and our new ventures, it’s overwhelming. Really.
So, kick back, remember the good old days and take a trip down memory lane. Peace!
